USS Independence (LCS-2) is the second class prototype for the Independence-class littoral combat ship. It was designed and built by General Dynamics, Aural and Bath Iron Works. It is intended as a small assault transport with a variety of capabilities depending on the mission module installed. The ship is a trimaran design capable of over 40 knots (74 km/h; 46 mph), and will normally be delivered to the US Navy at the end of 2009. This 127-meter ship requires a crew of 40 sailors and has a maximum range of 20,000 km. Really impressive! I love the design in general, especially the trimaran hull…
Sea Shadow (IX-529) is an experimental stealth ship built by Lockheed for the United States Navy. Sea Shadow was built in 1985 and used in secret but normal service until her public debut in 1993, to examine the application of stealth technology on naval vessels. In addition, the ship was designed to test the use of automation to enable the reduction of crew size. Sea Shadow can contain 12 people. The radars cant’ spot it and looking from the sky it looks like just like a shadow.
