Svannah Sanitoa, a 22-year old Samoan shot-putter, took part in the Women's 100m at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin and she did not even come last despite of her (approximately) 210 pounds. It is far from the recently new record established by Usain Bolt with 9.58 seconds, but for a 210 lb shot-putter, 14.23 seconds is not that bad. As she said, it was a personal best and she was happy to compete on a world stage, especially after she failed to qualify for the shot put. She was 3 seconds behind the winner but she avoided the last place that day, this place was for Tioiti Katutu (Kiribati) with 14.38 seconds. I’ll finish with a quick note, she said she was about to sign up for the US army…
