A hungry seven-month-old baby named Mahiga Gedi Farah who weighs only 7 pounds (3.4 kg) is in the hands of the mother in the hospital of the International Rescue Committee in the town of Dadaab, Kenya on July 26.

Mihag is just one of 800,000 children who officials warn could die across the region in the worst drought for decades.

Hundreds of these elephant tusks were originally seized in 2002. They were burned in Kenya last week to illustrate how serious the situation of illegally killing elephants has gotten.

This is a young wildebeest in Kenya who, against all odds, feigns off a hungry lioness who wants him for lunch. However, it only works for a while. Eventually the fight attracts the attention of a huge male lion…

Masai warriors, riot policemen, amateur artists and different tribes live in Kenya nowadays. Inside this post you can find spectacular photos of wild nature and “modern” African settlements. A war with bows and arrows in Kenya (18 pics)

Posted in Pictures 15 Oct 2009   / 5848 views
It happened in March 2008. Post-election clashes between tribes re-awakened ancient ethnic rivalries and they used bows and arrows to fight instead of the usual machetes. They said it was a more deadly alternative.
It’s very impressive and unusual. More than 20 people died in the fighting and a man was even shot in the face…
The pictures that impressed me the most are the ones where you see the Maasai warriors with members of the Kalenjin tribe on a hill overlooking the Olmelil Valley.

Modern Somalia pirates (30 pics)

This is not the pirates, which we are used to see in movies.
They are well armed and have quite fast boats.
Piracy is a very lucrative "business". If they manage to seize a boat, they can get ransom money of millions of dollars for the vessel, crew and cargo.
Despite the presence of military patrols in the Gulf of Aden, they still attack boats.
Kenya, Yemen and Somalia are very poor, so piracy is a major source of income for many inhabitants of these countries.
