Those who read teen magazines from the 1999-2001, remember these celebrities having their pictures taken for various product advertising.

Some designers have so many creative ideas they make ads that are difficult to judge. They look disturbing, yet the idea behind them is pretty clear.

These are some of the geekiest, inspirational and nostalgic retro video game print ad designs from the 80’s and 90’s.

This year’s London International Awards festival gave out the coveted LIA statue to the following brilliant ads from around the world. Thousands of companies applied but these creative ads stood out, with their shock value, originality and humor.

From WTF to creepy, weird, sexist, near paedophilia, racist, inappropriate… advertisements, there’s a bit of everything you hopefully won’t see nowadays.

The ‘politically correct’ can be annoying, but tasteless advertising is even worse. Luckily for us, society standards change and so does the advertising…

Dear Izismilers,

Over the past few weeks, we got more complaints that advertisement on izismile.com appeared with a sound which is very annoying to watch the content on the site. It is even more annoying for those who are at work. This situation is very uncomfortable for us as well. We are against such advertising, and always fight with those advertisers who are unfairly trying to show these ad banners on izismile.

I want to emphasize once again; our internal policy include a total ban on display of any advertisement (audio and video) with automatic sound. You can play a video ad on the site to watch it but only you should be able to turn it on. In all advertising programs where izismile participates, we activated filters to prohibit display of advertising with automatic sound on our site.

Yesterday the first steps have been taken to eradicate such ads. Several advertisers were banned. We hope that you won’t see or hear advertising with automatic sound anymore. However, if you come across such a banner, then in order to help us remove it from the site, you'll need to do the following:

1. Make a screenshot of the banner with the sound.

2. Click on the banner and copy the link to the site where the banner leads.

3. Email me the link and the screenshot to admin@izismile.com as soon as possible.

Only together can we overcome this stuff on Izi. Thank you.

PS. We’d like to ask all of you to take part in the poll inside this post and specify in the comments which country you are in (this is important because advertising with automatic sound is targeted, i.e. they will only show it in certain countries).

Advertising agencies use graffiti to make their ads more appealing and creative. The results are amazing.

Some advertisers can be downright brutal with their message to smokers to stop their nasty little habit. However, despite these visually effective anti smoking ads I doubt many actual smokers decided to put down their cancer sticks.

These amazing old advertisements for computers are really funny to us now. These are from the days where they still had to convince us that computers weren't an instrument of the devil, and that we would find them affordable and useful. From promises of better productivity to making us think it was sexy to have a computer, the advertisers pimped out Leonardo DaVinci and Dom Delouise to hawk their wares.

Watch what happens when PETA and other animal rights organizers create campaigns against animal abuse, neglect, and testing. These animal protection ads may shock you.

These are the most effective anti smoking advertisements that you’ve ever seen. They deal with everything from the effects that smoking has on your health to how unattractive the habit is. They are quite clever.

These are the best advertisements on buildings. They are very clever and ingenious. The advertisement illustrates their slogan if they have one. They certainly make their point and do the product a real service.

Coop’s Paints (Insurance Ad)

These are some advertisements for old computers. There are two things that really stand out. The first is what they termed as portable in those days. The second is how expensive they were. Some things weren’t so good in the good old days.

Ads are like selling letters. You need to write them to make people really want to buy what you are selling. This add created by 2001 Ford Taurus owner is the most unusual and creative I ever read. It truly draws your attention.

Some advertisement companies still have good sense of humor and vivid imagination to create such clever airport ads. Many of them made me smile.

Here’s a little but very interesting collection of retro ads.

I know that a lot has changed compared to the 50’s and that our society was quite sexist but I didn’t know that it was sexist to that extent.

But despite all the sexism in the ads they are also funny. Don’t get me wrong, I mean, it’s a good thing that we evolve and can laugh at our stupidities made in the past. I am pretty sure, our descendants will laugh at our today’s stupidities in the future.
