Wintertime at a Nuclear Disaster Site (30 pics)

Posted in Pictures   20 Jan 2011   / 6956 views

Welcome to Prypiat, the home of the largest nuclear disaster in history, in the wintertime. Prypiat was founded in 1970 to house the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant workers.
It is obviously closed now and is very spooky looking. It is amazing that there are still trees and plants that still grow there.

What's so amazing about plants and trees still growing? Radiation is not very strong. There are some spots with high radiation level but some people still live there. Of course it's not very healthy to live there but Pripyat is now a kind of tourist attraction and many people are visiting the city and the disaster zone itself. There are excursions organized by some Polish travel agencys. So for about 250$ you can visit Kiev, Pripyat and even take a photo of the nuclear plant itself.

@rolotomasi

I don't think so. But you surely get a guide with geiger counter who makes sure that you won't step in high radiation spots.:)
