Zara Hartshorn is a 13 year old girl but unfortunately she looks older than her friends’ parents as she suffers from a disease called lipodystrophy. It is a genetic disorder which makes the supporting fatty tissue under the skin to crumble while the skin continues to grow. Such a condition is extremely rare and is diagnosed in only 2,000 people around the entire world. This disease is related with insulin resistance, a high triglyceride level, diabetes and fatty liver. Every member of Zara’s family suffers from this disease but her symptoms are more serious than her older siblings. The appearance of a 50 year old woman is creating destructive effects on Zara’s social life.

I feel bad for her :( but ... "Every member of Zara’s family suffers from this disease". Isn't that a little odd that they chose to reproduce knowing that this will happen to their little girl (in this case) ? In my opinion, and under these circumstances, her parents made a mistake knowing that this will ruin her life. Do you agree ?

Hey, I'm 14, and both my parents knew that I'd get a genetic hearing loss like they have. My brothers have it too. Parents just want to raise a kid the best they can. And in all reality, parents think of their kids as the best thing in the world, even if they have a genetic disease. Thats like saying people who have the genes for Downs or something shouldnt have kids.... :3

I agree 100%, M. Her parents should not have had children. It is selfish and cruel to subject a child to genetic disease that can shorten or ruin their lives. I fell very sorry for her.

I think that why do people make fun of people that are suffering why don`t people make fun of people that come to school that wear so MUCH make up on and look a=ugly(even though they should not but still it is common sense)
